A Salford housing association has raised over £29,000 for St Ann’s Hospice thanks to the volunteering efforts of its staff.

The hospice, which has three sites in Greater Manchester, was voted by City West staff as the landlord’s spotlight charity for 2013 through its GIFT (Get Involved Find Time) scheme.

Over the last 12 months staff have taken part in a range of fundraising activities including a trek across the Great Wall of China as well as cake sales, car washes and carol concerts.

At the beginning of the year, City West pledged to raise enough money to provide a full day’s care at St Ann’s but the total amount has funded two full days.

Katrina Bury, Fundraising Manager at St Ann’s Hospice in Greater Manchester said: “At St Ann’s, we only get around one third of our funding from the NHS. This is why, as a charity, we rely on the support of generous individuals and local organisations, like City West, to be able to continue our work.

“It is absolutely fantastic that the team from City West went to such amazing lengths to help us raise our much-needed funds. From everyone at St Ann’s, we’d like to thank the City West team for their great help.”

In 2014 City West will be raising more money for the Guide Dogs training centre in Atherton.

Guide Dogs have trained over 400 dogs to help blind and partially-sighted people of all ages gain independence. The service also provides long cane mobility training, communication and daily living skills.

David Wright, Assistant Director of Commerce at City West, said: “Through our GIFT scheme our staff have gone to incredible lengths to raise money for St Ann’s and the final total of £29,739 has exceeded even our own expectations.

“We’re looking forward to supporting Guide Dogs in 2014 and we hope we can make a difference for another worthy cause.”
