The Chief Executive of leading housing and planning charity, the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA), Kate Henderson, has been appointed to the panel of Sir Michael Lyons’ Review of housing delivery and planning. The Review has been established by the Labour Party to provide an independent view on the changes to housing and planning policies that would be needed for the country to build 200,000 homes a year by the end of the next parliament
Kate Henderson said:
“Britain faces a chronic housing shortage and worsening affordability, affecting the long term well being of our nation - socially, economically and environmentally.
I am delighted to be working with Sir Michael Lyons and the other commissioners to address how we can deliver more and better homes in the right places. While there is growing consensus about the scale of the housing challenge, there is an urgent need to find the practical and effective ways in which we can deliver the step-change in house-building and create the homes, jobs and communities of the future”
The panel brings together people from a range of perspectives and backgrounds to ensure a comprehensive spread of evidence and balance of views to provide independent advice to Sir Michael in considering evidence and developing recommendations. Kate Henderson has been appointed in an individual capacity and will not be representing the TCPA, who will also be submitting a separate response to the Review.
The Review panel are also interested in other ideas and suggestions and wish to encourage a wide range of individuals and organisations to submit evidence on the barriers to and solutions for delivering a step change in house building.
