Residents have voted for how much money local projects should receive at two Christmas Community Count events, with all applicants receiving 100 per cent of the funding requested!

In the west of the Borough 10 groups received a total of £9,915 which included support for social activities for sheltered schemes and funding for Beechwood Cancer Care Centre events.

In the east of the Borough 14 groups received a total of £12,323 which will help improve things such as communal green space areas and to provide free football training sessions for children aged five to 10.

Santa delighted children when he made a special appearance, handing out gifts and posing for photographs.

Pupils from Adswood Primary School sang Christmas carols at the Bridgehall Community Centre event while Brinnington B.A.M. Samba band entertained residents at Offerton Community Centre.

Also in attendance were: Glendale, helping people to create holly wreaths; Stockport Homes’ Funding Officer assisted residents with future funding applications; Play Development provided children’s craft sessions; and Stockport Council was on hand to offer advice to residents to help reduce their fuel bills through the ‘Kill the Chill’ campaign.
