BME National has appointed Cym D’Souza as interim chair in the absence of Lara Oyedele.
Ms Oyedele requested a leave of absence in November while she addresses issues at her organisation, Obu-Dua Housing Association.
Ms Oyedele is currently suspended as Obu-Dua's chief executive, a matter that will be addressed at a three-day hearing in February.
Ms D'Souza's appointment was decided by BME members, who agreed that the position should be filled by someone from the organisation’s executive group.
She will act as chair until members meet again in February, and will act as the main point of contact on matters relating to the work of BME National.
Ms D'Souza is the chief executive of Arawak Walton Housing Association, which runs 950 homes in Manchester. She said: "I'm very pleased to step in as interim chair and hopefully Lara will return soon."
