Council and housing association tenants across the Borough are now moving homes after attending Stockport Homes’ ‘Big Exchange’ event at the Town Hall in November. Organised to arrange home swaps (mutual exchanges) for people whose homes are too big or small for them, several hundred tenants took part by advertising their home or turning up on the day to find a match.
All the main housing associations in Stockport took part, with people queuing up to get in at the start. There was a great atmosphere as tenants browsed available properties, were offered refreshments and visited a range of advice and information stalls.
Ffion Morgan, Mutual Exchange Assistant, Stockport Homes said, “Over 50 per cent of tenants who attended the event found at least one property that interested them and we are busy helping arrange moves. It’s been a great help for both people who are overcrowded or affected by welfare reform changes and need a smaller home. It’s also not too late to look for an exchange, all tenants need to do is speak to their housing officer to get the ball rolling. ”
