Warm welcome for new homes in Banbury

Sanctuary Group is celebrating the completion of 15 affordable new homes in the Grimsbury area of Banbury.

The leading housing and care provider started work on the site at South Parade in Middleton Road in February of this year, and has now completed all 15 new homes, which include a mix of rental and shared ownership properties.

The £2 million housing development, which received investment from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and support locally from Cherwell District Council, was built by Sanctuary’s contractors, Taylor French.

It includes seven properties for rent as well as eight new homes available to purchase on a shared ownership basis, the majority of which have already been reserved.

Councillor Debbie Pickford, lead member for housing at Cherwell District Council (CDC), joined Sanctuary Group on Thursday 21 November for a tour of the completed properties.

She said: “The district council and Sanctuary Group have a fine track record of working together to provide high quality affordable housing for those in need. This is another example of what we can achieve together and I’m sure there will be more to come.

“I visited the Middleton Road site back in March as construction work was getting started and it is fantastic to see the transformation that has taken place since then. The development has delivered the high quality family housing it promised and is sure to make a real difference in an area where affordable homes are so much in demand.

“My best wishes to the new residents.”

She explained that Grimsbury is one of the Council’s Brighter Future areas, and she passed her thanks on to Sanctuary for working so well with CDC towards the common goal of providing affordable housing that is so needed in Cherwell.

Jonathan Mullins, Sanctuary’s head of development for the Midlands said: “We have seen a great deal of interest shown in both the rental and shared ownership properties on this development and we are delighted to be delivering these much needed affordable homes in this area of Banbury.

“We are confident that these properties will provide comfortable homes for those moving in to them, and a vital first step onto the housing ladder for those taking up shared ownership.”

Sanctuary Group is working in partnership with Cherwell District Council to provide further affordable homes in this part of Oxfordshire, with investment from the HCA under the Affordable Homes Programme 2011-15.
