Show flat ready for inspection in Alston
Eden Housing Association (EHA) is hosting an open day at the Grisedale flats in Alston, timed to co-incide with the Alston Christmas market on Saturday 7th December. The idea to host an open house came from the Eden Independent Living Advisors who wanted to show case the new look show flat to the local community, demonstrating how older people can still live an independent life in their own home.
Eden Housing Association’s Rachael Thomson and Independent Living Advisor Elsbeth Rennie, have worked hard to prepare the show flat which will give local people chance to see what life in the independent flats can be like. They have also organised a collection of old photographs and film footage showing Alston from the past as well as local crafts.
The event runs 10.30am – 2.30pmon Saturday 7th December and includes free festive hot drink, mince pies, coffee and cake. Elsbeth Rennie said “Our Grisedale flats are next door to the Grisedale Croft Residential Care Home, and whilst they do share an opening corridor, we cater for different needs. The Grisedale flats are for older people who are still independent and want to remain in their own homes. We are hoping this event will encourage people to call in and see the difference.
It is important that local people in and around Alston know that when living in rurally isolated places, there are options when they become more vulnerable. These flats offer that extra level of reassurance – and tenants can choose to add on support and care packages if and when they need them.”
The twelve Grisedale properties are managed by Eden Housing Association. There are 1 bedroom flats and bedsits over two floors serviced by a chair lift. Modern walk in shower rooms have also just been installed.
