Stockport Homes customers shine at awards evening

Stockport Homes’ customers shone at a special awards evening held at Bredbury Hall, which recognised customers who strive to improve the lives of others and make a difference in their community.
Winners and runners up were presented with their awards by The Mayor of Stockport, who said: “It’s an honour to present these awards to well deserving members of the community. It’s great to see the positive impact a small number of people can make to the lives of others.”
Young Person’s Award
Winner under 16s
Megan Nicolson for her commitment to volunteering over the past year, from ‘Big Local’ projects to helping out at the Santa’s grotto.
Winner under 25s
Mark Bernard for his dedication to running his own football team, offering one to one training sessions to increase player confidence.
Daniel Riley for his engagement with the Employment Support Service to find full time, permanent work.
Community Project Award
The inspirational Young Fire Safety Ambassadors. 13 young people aged 14 to 15 held a fire safety event. Over 500 residents attended with the ambassadors helping 145 residents devise their own fire safety escape plan.
Brinnington Tenants’ and Residents’ Association (BTRA) for community projects which provided positive activities that helped to tackle local issues and improve the lives of others.
Dial Park Community Allotment Group for turning a disused space into a vegetable allotment, providing quality produce meaning its members are no longer reliant on shop bought vegetables.
Brinnington Young Environmental Champions for their commitment to raise awareness of recycling and increase recycling rates in Brinnington, in some areas increasing recycling rates by 43 per cent.
Customer of the Year Award
Role model June Young, for her relentless work to improve the life chances of residents in Offerton by pursuing funding for projects to support social inclusion and good inter-generational relationships.
June said: “I feel privileged and humbled to receive the Customer of the Year award.“
Christine Woolridge for her role as Chair of the Oldham Drive Residents’ Association that she set up to help improve the area.
Samantha Hill, Customer Involvement Manager at Stockport Homes said: “We’d like to thank everyone who nominated and highlighted what true stars we have in Stockport. Also, a big thank you to Harding Building Services for kindly sponsoring the event.”
