Circle launches first corporate responsibility review
Circle Housing Group has today launched its first Corporate Responsibility Review, which sets out their approach, celebrates progress and highlights future plans.
The review reports on how Circle – one of theUK’s leading providers of social housing – has embedded corporate responsibility throughout the organisation. It follows Circle securing a Big Tick from Business in the Community earlier this year for its work in Employment and Skills.
Mark Rogers, Circle’s CEO, said: “Corporate responsibility is key to creating economic value with positive social and environmental impacts, ensuring we address the concerns of our stakeholders while managing the risks facing our business. As a sector we must do more to demonstrate the social value we deliver, and share our social purpose with the private sector as we seek to forge new partnerships and opportunities.”
“The Public Services (Social Value) Act has ensured that, by law, housing providers are required to look at the social benefits of what they and their commercial partners are trying to achieve. But reporting in this way helps us to take this one step further, focusing on where we add most value, and most importantly where we can improve.”
Circle is one of theUK’s first housing groups to develop its own model for measuring Social Return on Investment (SROI). This was recognised at the inaugural Housing Association National Accountancy Awards where Circle was runner up in the Best Social Return on Investment category.
Its new repairs and maintenance contract is also delivering social value with contractors providing an apprenticeship opportunity for every £0.5 million spent with them – an estimated 233 apprenticeships opportunities during the 10-year lifespan of the contracts.
Mr Rogers continued: “As a leading housing group, we act with a business head and social heart, and corporate responsibility runs throughout the organisation. The publication of this report marks our commitment to demonstrating social value and sets out our stall for the future.
