Segun Babutunde at Deaf Awareness Workshop
Community Gateway Association (CGA) and YouMeSign recently delivered a workshop to assist deaf and hard of hearing customers has been hailed a success.
YouMeSign (www.youmesign.co.uk) is an award winning local company that provides quick and easy solutions to both deaf and hearing people.
Segun Babatunde is the founder of YouMeSign and a CGA Tenant, approached the organisation after mystery shopping its reception at its headquarters in Preston.
The workshop showcased a product known as the “Runner”. This innovative idea incorporates simple British Sign Language signs that can help communication and speed up enquires at the point of contact.
Attendees at the workshop were asked for their feedback on the most common enquires they have and the next step is to include these into the final product that will sit on the main reception desk.
Robin Ridgley, Communications Manager at CGA commenting “ CGA have worked hard over the past few years to ensure we know as much as possible about our customers as possible and to have someone like Segun working with us to provide this unique solution to communication is a real boost to our work.
The “Runner” is already in use at the local Odeon Cinema and also local pubs so we saw the benefit it is having already in the community.”
Segun said, “As a profoundly Deaf person myself, for years I have experienced many communication barriers, so working with local organisations like CGA, creating innovative products to help deaf and hearing people communicate together is brilliant.”
