New homes on St Paul’s Close in Runcorn have welcomed their first customers.
The scheme of 22 affordable two and three bed homes, owned by Halton Housing Trust and built by MCI Developments include many eco-friendly features such as high levels of insulation which will keep customers cosy for the coming winter.
Built to the Code for Sustainable Living Level Three, the properties come complete with rotary dryers, sheds and spacious front and rear gardens to encourage customers to make the most of their outdoor environment.
The 22 home development comprises of semis and two larger detached homes, suitable for a wide range of families. 25 year old Terry and his partner Amy moved into their new home last week. With their first baby due in a fortnight, the move, organised through borough wide social housing letting system Property Pool Plus, couldn’t have come at a better time, as they were living with in-laws and desperately needed their own space.
Terry said: “The house is great. Everything is brand new, it’s really ideal for us. The rent is also so much cheaper than the private rented sector, much more affordable and a million times better quality so we are very pleased.”
Halton Housing Trust’s development manager Farmeda Kosar is thrilled that local families will benefit from affordable rents: “There’s a shortage of what are classed as ‘affordable rented homes’ in the area and people often have no choice but to let a home through a private sector landlord where the rents are much higher.”
“We hope that these new homes meet the needs of a wide range of people such as Terry and his growing family, but also families who have downsized to a smaller property.”
The remaining Russell Road homes will be ready in late October and in the same month a further 12 homes on Lacey Street in Widnes will be ready for customers.
