Merton’s most inspiring community groups have until 1st October to apply for up to £10,000 of funding to support their work.
The deadline has been set by housing provider Circle Housing Group as it prepares to award grants of between £3,000 and £10,000 to community-changing projects in the borough.
More than 50 community groups have benefited from a total of £650,000 in funding since the Merton Priory Homes Community Fund was created in 2010.
Young people in Merton affected by domestic violence are among those to have benefited, after St Marks Family Centre in Mitcham was awarded £19,500 over two years to fund a new project supporting those in need.
Ian Petherbridge from the Centre said: “Because grants are focused on projects in our area, funding from Circle Housing Group has allowed us to reach out directly to young people in Merton affected by domestic violence.
“After identifying the need for this project we worked closely with Circle Housing Group who were superb at helping us complete the grant applications. They are very encouraging at making sure small organisations like us get the help they need.”
It is estimated that 15,000 people in the borough have gone on to benefit from initiatives made possible through the Merton Priory Homes Community fund money within the last three years.
Wayne Hainsworth, Managing Director of Merton Priory Homes, part of Circle Housing Group, said: “Funding is awarded directly to the many different initiatives improving life for people in Merton. We know about the hard work that so many charities and voluntary organisations do across the borough and this funding can really make a difference to people’s lives.”
“We’re on target to have donated a total of £1million of funding to community-changing initiatives by 2015. Anyone on a mission to bring about positive change to the borough should get in touch with Circle Housing Group to discuss how our support could really help.”
A separate deadline of 12th November has also been set by Circle Housing Group to apply for smaller grants of up to £3,000.
