Local residents looking to downsize in light of the social sector size criteria, also known as the ‘bedroom tax’ are invited to a tried and tested home swap event in Torquay.
As part of their commitment to local residents, Sanctuary Housing which manages over 3,000 properties in the Torbay district has joined forces with Torbay Council, DCH and Westward to host a day where people can discover more information about moving or exchanging their home.
The Home Swap Fair is taking place between 3 to 6pm on Wednesday 25 September at the Acorn Centre, Lummaton Cross, Torquay. This free event is open to all social housing residents across the Torbay district.
The event will tackle the challenges raised by the ‘bedroom tax’ and help answer any questions about the welfare reforms. Residents will be able to find out more about mutual exchange, the potential advantages of home swapping, as well as have the opportunity to meet with other people looking to exchange their home.
On the day attendees will also benefit from expert advice from HomeSwapper, Devon Home Choice, Housing associations; Tarka and Westcountry and Homemaker Southwest - an independent charity which aims to prevent homelessness and promote independence.
Helen Stanley, area manager for Sanctuary Housing, said: “We’d like to invite anyone who’s interested in home swapping to come along on the day. It’ll be a great opportunity to ask questions and get to grips with what home swapping is really about.”
The housing provider has had previous successes with home swap events across the country, with a high level of attendees and house exchange application forms being submitted on the same day.
