Call to quadruple council tax for long-term empty homes
Stockton Council is hoping its landlord survey will bring vacant properties back into use.
The council's private sector housing team is inviting homeowners to take part in its 2013 Empty Homes Survey, in which they can give their views on how the team can improve its services.
The council’s cabinet member for housing and community safety, councillor Steve Nelson, said: “Empty homes can become an eye sore and attract anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping which impact on our communities. That is why we would like to do all we can to support property owners in bringing any empty homes back into use.
“To help with this we would like to hear from all owners of unoccupied properties so we can find out how we can improve our services to assist them in returning their homes to use and finding suitable tenants who will value the properties.”
