AVHL Vikings meet rugby legend
Keith Senior, ex Leeds Rhinos, took time out of his busy schedule to meet Aire Valley Homes Leeds’ own ‘Vikings’ as they prepare for their mammoth task of canoeing the length of the Liverpool to Leeds Canal during the last week of September.
Keith represented England in the 2000 Rugby League World Cup and ended his playing career with Leeds Rhinos. He is now community development officer for Leeds Rugby Foundation which has been set up to change lives through sport. By building links with social housing providers through PIMS, a sub-contractor working on our repairs and maintenance contracts, Keith is hoping to spread the word and encourage even more young people to change their lives by engaging in sport.
Keith, who has taken part in many fundraising events, had words of encouragement for our ‘Viking’ heroes who begin their challenge on Monday 23 September in Liverpool. They are determined to succeed with a target of £20k for Yorkshire Cancer Centre, the fundraising arm of St James’s Institute of Oncology in Leeds. Anyone wishing to pledge support can do so through www.justgiving.com/aire-valley-vikings.
Simon Costigan, Chief Executive of Aire Valley Homes Leeds had this to say about our canoe heroes, “This is a mammoth task and I am really proud of these four amateur canoeists who until recently had never even been in a canoe before. They have been training hard over the last few months to ensure that they complete the challenge and everybody at Aire Valley Homes we will be cheering them on, especially on the Friday when they will successfully complete their challenge by arriving at Navigation House”.
