Greenfield's Sports Festival a Great Sucess

To celebrate the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics games one year on from the event, Greenfields Community Housing, together with Active Braintree Network and Fusion Lifestyle, held a special sports festival on Saturday 3 August. Over 300 people attended the event which proved to be a fantastic success for theBraintreearea.
Young people took part in a range of activities free of charge, including trampolining, athletics, basketball, climbing wall, futsal, blind football, bowls and extreme golf. Everyone that took part was able to reward themselves for their hard work with a fruit smoothie blended on the smoothie bike, courtesy of Greenfields.
Adults were also able to take part in activities such as Zumba, Pilates, judo-fit, extreme golf and bowls.
Councillor Joanne Beavis, Cabinet member for People at Braintree District Council said “This was a fantastic event and it was great to see so many children and their families enjoying themselves. The Inspired Sports Festival aimed to inspire the younger generation to take up sport and, as a result of this event, I hope to see many more youngsters continue to take part in their chosen sports after the Festival."
James Taylor, Health and Wellbeing Co-ordinator at Greenfields, said: “This event was to celebrate and continue the London 2012 Olympic Games Legacy; inspiring families across the district to get active. The event was a great opportunity for people to try out different activities, to make new friends and to get involved with local sports clubs. I enjoyed working with our partners to make the festival a success.”
Tim Mills, Director at Fusion Lifestyle said “Fusion Lifestyle was absolutely delighted to support and host the Festival at Braintree Leisure Centre. We are committed to encouraging participation in sport and physical activity whilst promoting the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. The Festival showed the positive impact that can be made with effective local partnership working and we sincerely hope that this event can go from strength to strength in 2014 and beyond”.
This festival was funded by Sport England through the Active Braintree Network.
