A young entrepreneur from Salford is revving up enthusiasm for his latest business venture by touring local schools with a fleet of go-karts.
Mathew O’Neill, 20, started go-karting business Koolkarts in his first year of college and has since expanded to offer road safety lessons for school children aged four to nine.
The unique initiative helps primary school pupils learn when it is safe to cross the road by using go-karts and props, including traffic lights and zebra crossings.
The young people also receive road safety lessons in the classroom using creative characters, Kareful Kidd and his younger sister Kareless Kidd - both are used to bring the issue to life.
City West Housing Trust recently stepped in to help Matthew take his business to the next level, by sponsoring the venture and organising showcase events for teachers and schools.
The latest event organised by City West at Mesne Lea Primary School, Matthew’s old school in Worsley, is set to get Koolkarts on the track to business success.
“The event went really well, lots of teachers attended and quite a few said they would get in touch with me in September when school starts again,” said Matthew who lives in Worsley.
The savvy entrepreneur decided to expand mobile go-karting business Koolkarts, after teaching young children to stay safe at the birthday parties he organised.
“I soon found that there was a niche for road safety events. City West encouraged me to pursue that side of the business and now it looks like I am going to be very busy come September,” said Matthew who started the business when he was 18 years old.
The scheme is set to launch in local schools following on from a successful pilot held recently at Beech Street Primary School in Eccles and the launch event held in Worsley.
Martyn Hague, Head of Communities and Neighbourhoods for City West Housing Trust, said: “We’re really proud to be supporting Matthew’s fantastic business.
“His get up and go attitude and the progress he’s made with it to date is really inspiring and we look forward to watching his business go from strength to strength in the future."
