A dedicated team of money experts is helping a housing trust's tenants generate thousands of pounds of extra income.
Weaver Vale Housing Trust’s money matters team is giving residents advice on a number of problems including debt, unpaid bills, budgeting, housing benefit, loan sharks and welfare reform.
In the past 12 months the team has opened more than 500 cases involving benefits/debt and money management, gained more than £550,000 in extra income for customers and has successfully helped customers claim over £40,000 in backdated housing benefit.
The team is also helping hundreds of customers reduce their fuel bills, manage their debt and has supported new customers through their early tenancy.
Adam Shufflebotham, money matters team leader, said: “Finances are extremely tight for a lot of people and the government’s recent changes to housing benefit have had a significant impact on many of our customers.
“However, we are urging people not to suffer in silence. Our friendly and knowledgeable team is here to help and is constantly working to find solutions to debt problems, reducing fuel bills and helping customers make sense of benefit entitlement and welfare reform.”
