Stockport Homes is opening an exciting new community store, called Penny Lane Pantry, in Hanover Towers, Lancashire Hill.
The Mayor of Stockport will officially open Penny Lane Pantry at the Lancashire Hill fun day on Saturday 17August. The store will open its doors to customers for the first time on Monday 19 August.
The pantry offers residents at Lancashire Hill access to discounted food items worth up to £15, for a weekly membership of just £2! Membership will initially be limited to the first 100 households.
Penny Lane Pantry will be staffed by volunteers and in the future will become a truly community owned resource funded sustainably by its members.
Supplies will come from FareShare, a national food redistribution charity committed to tackling hunger and reducing food waste, bulk buying initiatives and local social enterprises.
Anna Jones, Food Sharing Officer, Stockport Homes said, “We are really excited to be opening our first community store. The Pantry will help members access high quality food for a small weekly fee. It also provides local residents with the opportunity to invest in their community through volunteering and to learn new skills that can be taken into the workplace. Hopefully, this will be the first of many ‘Pantries’ in Stockport.”
