Sanctuary celebrates shared ownership work in Cherwell

More families in Cherwell District will be given the opportunity to take a step onto the housing ladder as work starts on the first of 23 new shared ownership homes planned for 2013.

As part of Shared Ownership Week (18^th to 24^th March) Cherwell District Councillor Debbie Pickford was invited to help lay the first bricks on new properties in Banbury being developed by leading housing and care provider Sanctuary Group.

The 15 new homes in Middleton Road, will include eight shared ownership properties which are expected to be completed later this year.

Sanctuary is also due to begin work on three new shared ownership properties in Weston on the Green this month with a further 12 shared ownership homes in other parts of the district planned for 2013.

In total, more than 40 new homes for either rent or shared ownership will be created in the district through an investment from Sanctuary and the Homes and Communities Agency as well as support from Cherwell District Council.

Jonathan Mullins, Sanctuary’s head of development for the area, said: “It is great that work has now started on these new homes with many more planned for the rest of the year.

“Shared ownership is a great way to give more people the chance to get a foot on the housing ladder when house prices continue to mean many struggle to afford the deposit needed to buy their first home.”

Cllr Debbie Pickford, lead member for housing at Cherwell District Council said: “We welcome this investment in Banbury and would like to thank Sanctuary for partnering us in this project. It is great to see work begin on a number of properties which, once completed, will provide much needed homes for the residents of our district.”

The new £2 million development in Middleton Road will include 15 new homes including a mix of apartments, houses and a bungalow.
