Worcetershire’s Drakes Broughton housing development officially opened

A new affordable housing development in the village of Drakes Broughton, Worcestershire was officially opened this week (Monday 11 March).

Commissioned by Festival Housing Group and developed by Shrewsbury based home builder and affordable housing specialist Saxonby, attendees included representatives from the two companies, the Homes and Communities Agency and Wychavon District Council.

The £1.4M development consists of nine, two and three bedroom homes and two bungalows.  Built to the highest and most current environmental standards, including timber frames using wood from renewable sources, each property is extensively insulated and includes a gas condensing boiler. All are for rent and will only be allocated to local people or to people with a strong local connection.

Guy Weston, chief executive at Festival Housing Group, carried out the opening ceremony. He said: “It’s no secret that there is a real shortage of this type of housing in rural communities. We are very pleased to be building affordable rented homes for local people in Worcestershire. We have worked hard to make sure we are investing in the types of homes people want.”

Continuing its successful partnership with Festival Housing Group which includes the largest UK rural development of its kind in Herefordshire,  Tim Charnley, director at Saxonby said: “Having delivered this one on time and within budget we look forward to working with Festival Housing Group on similar projects to Drakes Broughton in the future with the clear aim of fulfilling local housing needs.”
