Would-be homeowners will have the chance to buy with a little help when a Beatles themed house goes on the market under an innovative discount scheme.

The property on Croxteth Avenue in Litherland, which features a 14 foot mural of John Lennon, is currently being renovated by housing association Riverside ready to sell under its Own Place scheme.

Own Place - which recently scooped the UK Housing Award for Making Best Use of Stock - allows people, who couldn’t otherwise afford to buy their own home, to become owner occupiers by bringing back into use long-term empty properties that require significant investment.

The properties are improved to a mortgageable standard before being sold at a 25% discount to incentivise buyers to remain as owner occupiers for a minimum of five years.

Sue Ward from Riverside said: “The house will benefit from a new kitchen, gas central heating system, double glazing and damp proof course as standard but it has the added feature of the mural on the gable end.

“We commissioned the artwork by Belfast Loyalist Mark Ervine and Republican Danny Devenny in 2008 to celebrate Liverpool’s Capital of Culture and to mark Riverside’s 80th anniversary.”
