Debansu Das, head of marketing at vacant property security experts SitexOrbis, has won the Marketer of the Year award at the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Marketing Excellence Awards 2012. Das was crowned Marketer of the Year at a gala dinner this week (6 March) at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel. In addition the Chartered Institute of Marketing put Das forward for the 2012 award for European Marketing Excellence which he also won.
Now in their fourth year, the awards celebrate the best marketing achievements across various industry sectors and acknowledge the contributions made by individuals as well as by teams. There are more than 20 categories but the Marketer of the Year award, sponsored by BPP Learning Media, is widely regarded as the glittering prize of the evening. Judges commented that they were impressed with his passion and commitment and how applying strategic thinking and creative diversity can achieve great things.
Das, who has headed up SitexOrbis’s marketing function for eight years, beat off stiff competition just to make the shortlist, and was competing with Mark Daniels from the Student Loans Company for the final prize. Last year Daniel Jenkins-Ferguson from Ascertiva Group won the marketer of the year award.
Das, a MBA and Chartered Marketer, won the awards for his international experience and his tactical strategic marketing which has facilitated substantial commercial success for SitexOrbis.
He also won the first European Marketing Excellence award 2012, developed by The European Marketing Confederation (EMC) and judged by international marketing experts. Das, nominated by the CIM for this award, scooped the second award beating national winners from other European countries.
Das is no stranger to the winner’s podium. In addition to helping SitexOrbis to win more than 10 awards over the past three years, he has also won several awards for his own marketing expertise including Best Product Launch for two years running (2010 and 2011) at the Construction Marketing Awards as well as being highly commended in the Best Campaign under £25k.
“I am delighted to have won these prestigious awards,” said Das, pictured above. “It demonstrates the key role marketing plays to drive an organisation forward despite tough economic conditions. Business-to-business marketing is often considered the poorer cousin to business to consumer practice. This award proves that best practice B2B marketing can have a demonstrably positive effect on the organisation.”
As SitexOrbis’s head of marketing, Das has been instrumental in transforming the company’s image from just steel screen fitters to an innovative, forward-thinking company successfully diversifying into new markets and new product areas. Das, a qualified chartered marketer, began his career with Phillips as a product manager in 1996 before moving to the publishers ABP as brand manager where he won a gold award for Best Advertisement Campaign. From 2001 to 2004 he worked as a product manager for the blue-chip giant ICI Plc and was promoted to area sales manager. After moving to the UK from India in 2004, he spent a year working for a dot.com, where he was promoted three times, before joining SitexOrbis.
