Community Gateway Association (CGA) working in partnership with experienced technology recycling company emc europe, have started the process of recycling the associations obsolete Laptops.

Following a major IT project to upgrade to its network, the association looked at how it could enhance its green credentials by utilising Emc’s recycling services, the laptops that are reusable are given to charities and organisations across the UK and abroad.

A security certificate is issued to CGA ensuring secure data clearance and EMC are fully WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) compliant.

Each processed laptop is valued at its current market value and the revenue for each is then given back to the organisation

CGA have decided that the revenue generated by this project will be given directly to the organisations charity, chosen by colleagues every year at its annual staff day.

This year the chosen charity is The Space Centre a local organisation that creates a multi-sensory environment for children with special needs.

The CGA charity team were thrilled when they were told that £400 was being donated for this worthwhile cause.

Tina Foulds CGA’s IT manager commenting said, “It has been great that we are able to recycle our old laptops and give something back to the community.

The team at Emc have been brilliant; the process has been very efficient and simple.

At CGA we are always looking at innovative ways to assist community projects and this is another example of how we have been able to support our chosen charity”

Neil Bonnar Emc Europe Head of Business Development said “We are delighted to be working with the Community Gateway who has chosen emc europe as their recycling partner for laptops.

It is pleasing to see an organisation such as the Community Gateway having a proactive approach to their environmental responsibility. Emc Europe looks forward to working with the Community Gateway and supporting their community plans in the future”.
