Partners gather to celebrate the show flat opening
Warwick County Councillor Izzi Seccombe cut the ribbon last week to open a show flat at an exciting new Housing 21 housing scheme for older people in Warwick.
Construction of the apartments at Rohan Gardens in All Saints Road is well underway. When complete, the £8 million development will provide 42 well appointed self-contained apartments as well as communal facilities including a restaurant and hairdressing salon.
Visitors to the show flat will be able to view the spacious layout of the two bedroom apartments, which will be available to rent or purchase on a shared ownership basis.
Kris Peach, Regional Operations Director for Housing 21 said: “Construction of Rohan Gardens is progressing well and the opening of this show flat will give those interested in moving to this delightful scheme an opportunity to see what’s on offer.”
Rohan Gardens is an extra care housing development, which means that residents will still enjoy independent living but with the added security of 24 hour support and care if needed. Applications are invited from those aged 55 and over with a housing or personal care need and a local connection to the Warwick District Council area.
The scheme, which is due for completion at the end of April, is being built in a partnership between Warwickshire County Council, Warwick District Council, Housing 21 and Willmott Dixon.
Councillor Izzi Seccombe, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care, said: “I’m delighted that the very positive relationship we have had with Housing 21 has now delivered this exciting and much needed Extra Care Housing into Warwick.
“This scheme, which is making fantastic use of county council land, will benefit older people by giving them more choice and control about how they live in later life and will support them to live independently for as long as possible.”
The Rohan Gardens development is the first of six in a partnership with Warwickshire County Council and the district councils in Warwickshire to develop extra care schemes across the county, three of which are partly funded by the Homes and Communities Agency.
Councillor Seccombe continued: “I know how much people in Warwick have been anticipating these homes by the amount of interest they have already expressed to their local County Councillor, Martin Ashford, who has been much involved in the scheme. I’m delighted to have been asked to cut the ribbon on the show flat.”
Cllr Norman Vincett, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Property Services with Warwick District Council added: “We are looking forward to the scheme going live so that older people in the district can reap the benefits of such a modern housing scheme and the associated facilities.”
The show flat will be open every Tuesday from 19 February between 10am – 4pm. Viewings are by appointment only and anyone interested in viewing should contact Gemma Uglow, Service Manager on 07718 110333.
