Welwyn Hatfield Community Housing Trust’s Chair, Paul Wren, presentS ‘School Team of the Year Award’ to Queenswood Tennis Team Hatfield
Welwyn Hatfield Community Housing Trust’s Chair, Paul Wren, presented ‘School Team of the Year’ to Queenswood Tennis Team Hatfied, at the recent Welwyn Hatfield Sports Awards 2013, held The Hawthorne Theatre, Campus West, Welwyn Garden City, Herts.
The Awards which are in their sixth year, celebrate the dedication and achievements of local athletes, coaches, teams and school teachers. The coveted ‘School Team of the Year Award’, sponsored again this year by the Trust, recognises the many outstanding performances of teams in our local schools. The nominees were:-
Monks Walk U13 Badminton Team
Monks Walk U14 Badminton Team
Monks Walk U15 Tennis Team
Onslow St Audrey’s Bowls Team
Queenswood Tennis Team (Winning Team)
Stanborough Boys U15 Volleyball Team
Paul Wren said: “We are delighted to have the privilege of sponsoring ‘School Team of the Year Award’ for the second year running.
Many congratulations to Queenswood Tennis Team; not only have they have done marvellously in their sporting accomplishments during the past year, they are role models for all existing and up-and-coming sports enthusiasts. It goes to show the wonderful home grown talent we have in the borough. Well done!”
Queenswood Tennis Team’s Performance Tennis Coordinator, Hilary Herson’’ added: “It’s an honour to accept this Award on behalf of the team – they’ve achieved real significant successes and done a great job, proving themselves superb ambassadors, not just for the school but for sport as well. I would like to thank the organisers and particularly Welwyn Hatfield Community Housing Trust for their sponsorship”.
Sporting achievements for the Tennis Team over the year include: A Team winning the Great Britain Aberdare Cup and B Team, the Great Britain Aberdare Plate. A Team will also be representing Great Britain at the World School Tennis Finals, to be held this April in Austrialia.
Paul, who is still actively involved in sport, also received Welwyn Hatfield Borough Sports Award for Achievement, Commitment and Service to Sport in 2007. He concluded: “It’s been a great evening and exceptional year for sporting achievement generally. No doubt, our local budding sportspeople will continue to build on the inspiration of tonight’s celebrations. Well done to all nominations and I Iook forward to next year’s Awards”.
The ceremony also played host to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Awards. In recognition of work of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Makers, borough residents who volunteered over the Summer were invited to attend as VIP guests.
