Lancashirebased Progress Housing Group have made a £2,000 donation to the Wigan Warriors Community Foundation.

The donation was made after Progress Housing Group Chairman Philip Jones recently retired from his position and the Group offered to offer a gift to a charity of Philip’s choice. As lifelong supporter and Trustee of the charity, Philip has chosen to donate the money to the Wigan Warriors Community Foundation.

Speaking about the Wigan Warriors Community Foundation, Philip said:

“The Wigan Warriors Community Foundation is a charity that is very close to my heart.  Being so heavily involved with the Foundation over the past two years I have seen the great community work they do first hand, not just in developing the sport of Rugby League but also in providing support and engagement services across the Wigan Borough and beyond, whether that be helping the people to adopt a healthier lifestyle, teaching school children how to be better citizens, providing opportunities for disadvantaged youngsters or working with children with different forms of disability.

“They also provide a range of services to support local amateur Rugby League Clubs, who are themselves an integral part of their communities, so I am delighted that the donated money will be ring-fenced and used to specifically support this work by way of a new annual award which is currently being developed.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Progress Housing Group and I am thankful for this kind donation which will make a big difference to local rugby-playing youngsters.”

Progress Housing Group is based inLeylandand provides a wide range of housing solutions and related services including affordable rental properties, sheltered housing, supported housing for people with learning disabilities, shared ownership and emergency and temporary accommodation.

Chief Executive of Progress Housing Group, Jacqui De-Rose commented: “I am extremely impressed with the facilities and tremendous support and outreach work being undertaken in disadvantaged communities by the Foundation. The commitment to making a real difference to the lives of local people, young and old is quite inspirational.”

Commenting on the generous donation, Wigan Warriors Marketing Director and Chairman of the Community Foundation, Simon Collinson added:

“We are extremely grateful for the donation from Progress Housing Group, a company who themselves understand the importance of local communities and provide some great services for the people who live in their communities.  These new funds will allow the Foundation to reach more people across the Wigan area and beyond and support our flourishing amateur Club programme moving forwards.”
