Tenants invited to a Fab event

Homes for Northumberland tenants are invited to see acclaimed basketball legend Fabulous Flournoy, from Newcastle Eagles, present awards to the winners of this year’s Spirit of the Community Awards.
The awards scheme, which is organised by Homes for Northumberland, is open to Northumberland County Council tenants and recognises the people who have helped their fellow residents enjoy life more or made a difference to others. Winners will be presented at a special event held at Bede Academy in Blyth on 6 February and tenants are invited along to celebrate the achievements of their fellow residents.
Spirit of the Community Award entries are judged by a group of tenants and the awards are split into the following five categories:
· Good neighbour award
· Young person of the year award
· Getting involved award
· Best community group
· Garden of the year award
Last year, the Overall Spirit of the Community Award was given to the Blyth and District Gateway Club, who were nominated by tenants Paul and Jane Mackay for their fantastic work in the local community.
Before the Spirit of the Community Awards, tenants can also enjoy some refreshments and take part in a Big Debate session, which invites them to meet Homes for Northumberland’s new Executive team and ask them any questions about issues that matter to them.
Dawn Wright, resident involvement manager at Homes for Northumberland, said: "There are so many unsung heroes among tenants across Northumberland who give up their own time to help others.
"Last year these awards highlighted some fantastic work in the local community and we very much look forward to congratulating this year’s winners. The Big Debate is also an opportunity for tenants to ask our Executive team any questions.
“We are delighted that Fab from Newcastle Eagles will be coming along to present the winners and meet with tenants. I’d urge any tenants who are interested in coming along to this special event to contact us as soon as possible to secure a place."
