Orbit Group has appointed Baroness Blackstone as its new chair.
The Baroness, who is a life peer in the House of Lords and was vice chancellor of the University of Greenwich from 2004 to 2011, takes over from Liz Potter, who is retiring.
A key focus for Baroness Blackstone will be guiding the implementation of Orbit's seven-year 2020 strategy.
Baroness Blackstone is also chair of Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and of the Board of the British Library.
Baroness Blackstone said: "In these tough times providing high-quality homes, excellent services and investing in local communities is more important than ever and I am delighted to be taking on this role.
"Although there are challenges ahead, there are also many opportunities and through our Orbit 2020 transformation and strategy we are well placed and can face the future with real confidence."
Orbit manages over 37,000 homes across England.
