THREE Together Housing Group trainees were among the cream of the crop at the Young Builders UK Awards (2012).
Twin Valley Homes duo Roxanne Gray (gas) and Kyle Catterall (painter and decorator) along with Anthony Fletcher (carpenter) from Chevin Housing Association travelled to the House of Commons.
Roxanne placed second overall and won £250 plus £500 of tools and a toolbag with Kyle and Anthony both receiving commendations and winning £100 of tools and a toolbag.
A delighted Roxanne said: “I was totally surprised to get second place and I just want to say a big thank you to Chris Davies, my mentor, for everything he’s done.
“I’d also like to say a thank you to Twin Valley Homes for giving me such a fantastic opportunity. I love my job as it’s given me something to aim for.”
The trainees were accompanied by their mentors, who have helped them learn and provided a positive influence.
But just to make the shortlist is a fantastic achievement for youngsters who have overcome significant challenges in their lives.
The awards, which have run since 2000, promote engagement with young people to combat social exclusion, through the development of construction-based support services, and celebrate young people's success.
Tom Miskell, Together Housing Group Chief Executive, said: “To even make the shortlist is something to be proud of.
“Our trainee programme is amongst the best in the sector and we’re hoping the efforts of these trainees will act as a spur for others to reach these heights.
“We’d like to congratulate the trainees on their success and wish them well as they continue to forge careers within the Group.”
