A cleaner came to the rescue of an elderly man who had collapsed in his flat.

Nina Dloniak found Thomas Roberts struggling to breathe and in a state of panic on the floor of his social housing flat in Leominster, Herefordshire.

Nina was cleaning Cennick Court, a housing for older people scheme managed by Marches Housing Association (MHA), when she discovered Mr Roberts.

She phoned her head office to get them to call an ambulance whilst she stayed with Mr Roberts and encouraged him to breathe calmly.

Nina - pictured with with MHA managing director, Phil Green - played down her part in coming to Mr Roberts' aid, saying "I was only doing what anyone else would have done".

Emma Tobin, MHA's housing for older people team leader, said: "Nina should be very proud of her actions. It is reassuring to staff and residents that our contractors share our values of care and social responsibility, along with our ethos ‘treat others as we wish to be treated ourselves'."

MHA presented Nina with a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her brave and quick action - to her surprised delight.

She has also been invited to the annual Thank You party, which is held to recognise the contribution made by anyone to support their communities.

MHA manages 16,000 homes across the country.
