A Stoke-on-Trent housing association has reached a milestone with the purchase of its 30th home for low cost rent.

EPIC Housing has invested more than £2 million over the last two years in buying and refurbishing properties for families who need larger homes.

Many of the purchased properties have been lying empty for years.

Though EPIC has funded most of the scheme itself, it has been helped by a £173,000 boost from Stoke-on-Trent City Council and the Government's Empty Homes Programme.

The landlord plans to continue buying up around ten empty homes a year.

One of the families that has benefited from EPIC's scheme is Jane Palmer, 48, and her son Harry, 10.

Jane said: "I’m delighted with my new home. We’ve now got plenty of space and Harry has more independence. This has much improved our quality of life and I am pleased that EPIC are enabling families, like myself, to have this opportunity."

Len Gibbs, EPIC’s chief executive, said: "We are proud to have invested over £2 million in the local area, helping safeguard local jobs and providing family homes at an affordable rent. Thirty families now have a safe, warm place that they can call home."

EPIC manages around 1,000 homes in the Bentilee area of Stoke.
