Plus Danes New Homes
A housing association is pledging to build more properties itself after completing three new houses.
Plus Dane Group's existing trades team built the homes on a parcel of land in Castlefields, Runcorn, as part of its Smartbuild project.
The Group is aiming to cut the costs associated with using building firms and outside contractors, and believes it can eventually save up to £20,000 on each home it builds.
The first tenants were welcomed to their new homes this week, one of whom, Elaine Kochan, said: "It’s such a lovely home with so much space. I feel privileged to be a part of this.
My husband and I have two children and were living in a cramped two-bedroom apartment; both girls have now got their own room and are so happy. It’s a lovely house, a lovely area and we are all made up."
Elaine, along with husband David and their two children were involved in the Smartbuild project from the beginning and even helped design the kitchen and bathroom.
Plus Dane plans to develop more than 1,000 new homes across Cheshire and Merseyside next year.
One of the members of the Smartbuild team, Phil Moss, said: "It’s been an amazing learning experience and I’m so proud of the homes we’ve built. It’s a great feeling to look at the people going through their front doors and to be able to say ‘I helped build that home for you’."
