A national retirement housing provider has awarded 30 of Hackney’s older residents special accolades for sharing their personal achievements at a special exhibition . The exhibition is being held between 7 and 24 December at Hanover’s London Lane office.
The Hanover achievement exhibition was born when Housing Manager Jeanette Thayre realised that the art work, photography and community achievements created by Hanover residents were of a very high standard.
She said: “I am very proud of all of the residents who entered some of them have only recently become involved with their local communities.
“The competition entries were so good I am considering commissioning one of the photographers to capture some images for my front room.
“The exhibition should be an inspiration for older people throughout Hackney. It also offers insight into the great opportunities that life in Hackney can offer.”
In addition to artwork and community achievements, some residents have been reaping the benefits of the estates green spaces by cultivating vegetable gardens. This has enabled them to create healthy culinary delights and have fresh vegetables with their meals.
Next year, Jeanette and her team plan to develop relationships with partner organisations who can help residents develop their IT and creative skills.
