Deep Fat Fryer
A Manchester housing association is giving away deep fat fryers as part of a chip pan amnesty.
Northwards Housing will gift a deep fat fryer to the first 100 tenants who get in touch. It will also take away their old chip pans and set up the new cooking device.
Northwards' amnesty is an attempt to tackle the menace of chip pan blazes in its properties, with the cost of providing the fryers offset by the savings made on renovating properties after serious fires.
Mike Stevens, director of neighbourhood services, said: “We want to do anything we can to reduce the number of fires we have in our homes.
“Last year, 29 people were injured in cooking fires and a number of these were caused by chip pans. That’s why we’re encouraging our tenants to Ban the Pan this winter.”
