On the 29th November, the Mayor of Lewisham, Sir Steve Bullock, officially opened Wardalls Grove, a new housing development by housing association, The Hyde Group, in New Cross, London.

Sir Steve said: “The 124 new homes are a welcome addition to Lewisham’s housing stock, both for people to rent, and to buy.  As housing costs are increasing across London, I'm pleased that 72 of the new homes are for social rent and will remain affordable to families in the borough.”

“It is the strong partnership between Lewisham and Hyde that has made this possible, and we look forward to continue our relationship with Hyde well into the future.”

Steve White, Chief Executive of The Hyde Group said: “We’ve worked in partnership with Lewisham Council for more than 40 years to provide much needed housing for people in the borough.

“Hyde also has a long history of working in New Cross with the various phases of Kender and now, with Wardalls Grove, it has added a significant number of homes at a time when little development is happening across the country. More than half of the 52 shared ownership units in Wardalls Grove have already been sold.”

“Wardalls Grove was built to the highest environmental standards which mean lower fuel bills for our residents. At Hyde, we’ve always been about more than just bricks and mortar. Our underlying purpose is to improve the lives of people who live and work in the communities where we have a presence.

“Our social and economic regeneration arm, Hyde Plus, offers residents advice on offers residents advice on jobs and training, money and debt advice, as well community projects and expert advice that helps people get involved in improving their community.”

“I hope the ‘Hyde community’ in this part of the world continues to go from strength to strength,” added Mr White as he wished the residents of Wardalls Grove well in their new homes.

Andrew Osborne, Chairman of Osborne said: “Over the last 10 years Osborne, in partnership with Hyde, has delivered over 430 new homes in Lewisham that have made a real difference to the area and the people who live here.

“The energy efficient technologies in this new development will mean residents will have lower energy bills at a time of rising prices, and the information we get back from Wardalls Grove will help us build even more energy efficient homes in future."
