CARING housing provider Salix Homes is ensuring its elderly and vulnerable tenants keep warm this winter.

Throughout November and December Salix Homes staff have been carrying out home visits to elderly tenants to ensure they are prepared for the cold winter months.

Staff are visiting more than 100 tenants across Central Salford who are over 80 and registered with a disability as part of the Keep Warm Keep Well scheme.

The tenants are provided with a blanket to keep them snug and warm on wintry days; a thermometer to ensure their homes are at the right temperature and an information pack including top tips on how to keep warm and healthy during cold periods.

MOTs can also be carried out on their heating system to ensure it is in tip-top condition and staff will also identify if the tenants require any additional support during a cold spell.

Tenants will also be offered advice on claiming the right benefits to ensure they are collecting the cold weather payments they are entitled to from the Government.

Sue Sutton, director of customer and neighbourhood services at Salix Homes, said: “Our Keep Warm Keep Well Scheme is now in its fourth year and is proving very popular with tenants.

“Making sure our tenants are healthy, happy and warm during the cold winter months is a priority for Salix Homes and we want to ensure our tenants don’t feel alone this winter.

“It is imperative, particularly for the elderly and vulnerable, that their homes are warm. Simple things like ensuring the heating is on continuously between 18 and 20 degrees can help prevent more serious health problems."

All tenants who take part in the scheme will be entered into a prize draw to win a food hamper.

If you are a Salix Homes’ tenant and think you would benefit from a home visit, or know someone who would, call the Salix Homes Customer Support Team on 0161 7798012 or email customer.support@salixhomes.org.
