A housing association’s first female apprentice wins Apprentice of the Year at prestigious award ceremony.
Merlin Housing Society’s Jess Steed (33) won the Painter and Decorator category at OnSite’s Apprentice Awards earlier this week.
Jess said “I’m thrilled! I really didn’t think I would win as I have never won anything before – it’s like all my Christmases have come at once. The support I’ve had from Merlin throughout my time with them has been fantastic and I’ve enjoyed every minute.”
Merlin’s Head of HR and Communications Diane Cushing said: “Jess joined us in September 2010 as one of two female trade operatives.
“She’s a valued member of our team and it’s fantastic that her hard work and dedication has been recognised. We’re also delighted that she accepted a permanent position earlier this year when her apprenticeship finished.”
Merlin employs ten apprentices a year as part of its commitment to invest in local communities. It’s holding an open day at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College on Wednesday 19 December to recruit its next intake.
