A Liverpool woman has been jailed for fraudulently claiming over £88,000 in benefits.

Ta-Rita Gore, of Owen Street, St Helens, was found guilty at Liverpool Crown Court and sentenced to eight months prison - four of which are to be served in the community.

She was also ordered to repay the amount in full.

The court heard that the 37-year-old failed to declare her true circumstances to St Helens Council and the Department for Works and Pensions when claiming Income Support, Housing and Council Tax Benefit.

She had claimed benefits as a lone parent but failed to declare that her employed husband was living in the property with her, leading to an overpayment of £88,801.
