Viridian sells off 8 care homes Viridian sells off 8 care homes

Viridian Housing has sold eight out its residential care homes to Gold Care Homes.

The housing association - which manages 16,000 homes across the UK - has decided to focus on its core housing services and will no longer be a direct provider of care services to older people.

The value of the deal has not been disclosed.

Viridian is still active in the provision of retirement housing and is currently working on the development of over 500 new homes for older people in the London area.

It will continue to manage its supported and retirement housing schemes, and is still managing four care homes under a PFI (Private Finance Initiative), although these homes will also be transferred to an alternative provider.

Gold Care Homes is a family owned business that provides care homes for older people.

Matt Campion, Director for Social Impact at Viridian, said: “The decision for Viridian to withdraw from the direct provision of care services for older people has been a difficult one. We recognise how valuable and important these services are both to the individuals that receive them and to the wellbeing of our society in general.

"However care has been a relatively small part of our business and our strategic direction involves increasing the focus of our business on fewer activities. I am confident that by selling our care homes to a specialist care provider we have secured the best future for the residents and services.”
