Emeli Sande to perform with Paul Weller at concert in aid of Crisis
Emeli Sandé is to round off a remarkable year by singing at a special concert in aid of the homelessness charity Crisis in December.
Sande will perform at the Hammersmith Apollo on Wednesday 19 December with Paul Weller and Miles Kane at a gig hosted by Ben Elton.
She will appear onstage with Weller and Kane at the 'Crisis Presents' concert after an incredible year, including performances at the Olympics, the biggest selling album of the year with ‘Our Version of Events’, announcing a solo UK tour and most recently taking three prizes at the coveted Mobo awards.
She said: “I’m really excited to be getting up on stage with Paul and Miles. Christmas is a special time but for those experiencing homelessness it can be terrible – let’s raise some money so more people have a chance to take their first steps out of homelessness.”
Ben Elton, a long term Crisis supporter will host the evening and audiences will also be treated to a performance by singers and musicians from Crisis Skylight London.
Homelessness is rising nationally after years of declining trends and this year a 43% increase was recorded in the number of people seen sleeping rough on London's streets.
Proceeds from Crisis Presents will fund the charity’s life-changing Crisis at Christmas project and its year-round Crisis Skylight centres at locations across the UK.
Crisis chief executive Leslie Morphy said: “Thank you to all our wonderful artists who are getting on stage for Crisis Presents, and those who buy a ticket to see the gig. They will help Crisis at Christmas care for thousands of homeless people during the festive week in warmth and comfort, and give our Christmas guests the opportunity to access year-round Crisis services, bringing hope for a better year ahead. With homelessness rising, this support is ever more vital.”
Tickets for the concert are on sale now.
