Welwyn Hatfield Community Housing Trust is leading celebrations marking 50 years of Queensway House in Hatfield!

The event will be held at the YMCA Youth Space at Queensway House on 2 November from 3pm and is open to all local residents.

Deputy Mayor, Howard Morgan, and other local councillors will be joining in the fun with current and former residents of Queensway House. There will be an opportunity to take a nostalgic look back at images of Queensway House as it was, along with music from the 1960s and refreshments kindly provided by local bakery, Simmons.

Queensway House is Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council’s only tower block. The council recently invested around £900,000 in refurbishing the exterior, creating a visually improved building, and improving the insulation of the block for those that live there.

Residents now have new UPVC windows and replacement balcony doors and railings, allowing them to enjoy warmer and much more energy efficient homes.

Executive Member for Housing, Councillor Roger Trigg said: “This occasion is set to be very special, marking 50 years of this Hatfield landmark. It will be fascinating, especially for younger residents, to see Queensway House as it was all those years ago!

“I’m also pleased that the appearance of our only ‘tower block’ on the townscape has been improved and that the majority of the refurbishment works was completed in time for this celebration.”

Paul Wren, Chair of the Trust’s Management Board added “I hope we can also look to the future: the recent refurbishment of Queensway House means it is set to provide more attractive and energy-efficient homes for local people for years to come. Happy birthday Queensway House!”
