Four dead in Essex house fire

An Essex house fire has claimed the lives of three children and a woman.

Two children have also been taken to hospital with serious burns after the blaze in Barn Mead, Harlow. A man has also been treated for minor injuries.

Fire services were alerted at 1.40am this morning. They managed to bring the occupants out of the premises where the survivors were given emergency treatment.

Essex Police said: "The cause of the fire is under investigation and detectives are looking at the circumstances leading up to the fire and ask that anyone who was in the area of Barn Mead in the early hours of Monday and has any information contacts police at Harlow police station on 101."

The fire service added: "Fire investigation teams are now working with Police to establish how this tragedy happened and our thoughts are with those the family left behind."
