The Mayor of Doncaster, Councillor Peter Davies visited a brand new housing development in a South Yorkshire village this week (Tuesday, October 9) to see at first hand why it is so popular with house hunters.

The Evergreen development in Bentley, Doncaster is so in demand that over a quarter of homes on Phase 1 have already sold within two weeks of the show home opening.

The development, which is being built by award-winning house builder, Keepmoat consists of 33 three and four bedroom homes which are ideal for first time buyers, young professionals and families.

The Mayor was joined by Cllr. Barbara Hoyle, Portfolio Holder for Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council and Rob Pearson, Head of South Yorkshire and Humber for the Homes and Communities Agency to view the development and officially open the show home.

With eight different house types available at Evergreen, it is little wonder that the development has been so popular, with a range of homes and styles on offer to fulfil the dreams of a variety of house hunters.

For a larger than average family home, the three bedroom Braintree is available (on selected plots only) for £96,746 on the First Step scheme, which helps first-time-buyers to get onto the property ladder.

Under the scheme, purchasers need just a 5% deposit, and 80% mortgage. The remaining 15% of the house price is covered by a loan from Keepmoat, which is interest-free for the first five years.

The ground floor of the Braintree offers an open plan kitchen / dining area leading into a light and spacious lounge with access to the rear garden through double French doors. The first floor offers three good sized bedrooms, with a master bedroom including en-suite and a family bathroom.  Car parking is also available.

Alternatively, the three bedroom Cartmel is available from £98,996 also on the First Step scheme and on selected plots only.  Spanning three floors, the ground floor includes an open hallway, downstairs WC, open plan kitchen and dining area and garage.  The second floor includes a spacious lounge with master bedroom and en-suite and the third floor includes two bedrooms and family bathroom.

The larger four bedroom Eppleby, which is available from £145,995 may appeal to families.  The layout of the Eppleby is simply stunning with a large open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge on the ground floor, three bedrooms including one with en-suite and family bathroom on the first floor and one large, spacious master bedroom with en-suite covering the whole of the top floor.

The eco-friendly homes are designed to Level  4 of the Government’s Code for Sustainable Homes and are available to reserve now.  The homes are exceptionally well insulated with energy efficient combination gas boilers and high standard double glazing fitted in all properties.

Ian Sutcliffe, Keepmoat CEO, said: “We have had an overwhelming response from visitors to our Evergreen development with over 25% of homes in our first phase, already sold.  The development sits within an idyllic setting boasting beautiful views of mature woodland and is in an ideal location for families.

“I would like to thank The Mayor of Doncaster for visiting the development and officially opening our Dalton show home today.  Developments like the Evergreen help to regenerate the area as well as providing homes and jobs for local people and it was great to see that he has shown his support.”

Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “This development will transform what was once Bentley pit site. The work will create up to 170 affordable homes and it is great to see this site regenerated.”

Rob Pearson, Head of Area at the Homes and Communities Agency said: “This development highlights what we can achieve through working closely with our partners to turn a former colliery site into a desirable place to live. The fact that a quarter of the homes sold almost immediately clearly shows that these are the sort of homes that local people want.

“It is also great that these homes are being built by a local company helping to protect and create local jobs and boost the economy in Doncaster.”

Phase two of the development, which will be located on The Avenue, is expected to commence in early 2013 and will consist of 137 homes including an apartment block of 17 units.
