Chestnut Court in Sefton is a sheltered housing scheme in Liverpool managed by Pierhead Housing Association. Built in 1985 it has 29 one bedroom flats together with a communal lounge and dining room plus numerous other facilities to help residents enjoy their later years.
The flats were built with timber windows which were starting to show their age and needed to be replaced. The replacements needed to be low maintenance and energy efficient, but the distinctive look of the timber windows needed to be retained to preserve the scheme’s overall look. The scheme’s residents were another important consideration. Any contractor working on the replacement of the 191 windows and 11 doors would need to demonstrate their ability to work efficiently, tidily and professionally in order to minimise disruption to the residents’ day to day lives.
Pierhead has contracted trade and retail fabricator Spektaglaze to undertake window and door refurbishments on several social housing projects since 2005 and had no hesitation in asking it to tender for the Chestnut Court work. Spektaglaze tendered to supply and install Deceuninck 3000 series with a rosewood foiled exterior and a white interior. It was awarded the contract thanks to Pierhead’s knowledge of Spektaglaze’s ability to supply a quality product and a professional, courteous installation service.
Richard Hincks at Spektaglaze said, “We were delighted to be awarded this project by Pierhead because it reflects the trust they have in our ability to deliver a quality result. Projects like these pose unique challenges, but because of that they’re always enjoyable to work on.”
Careful planning of both the manufacture and installation phases meant that installing the new windows and doors took just six weeks. Richard said, “We are very proud of the finished result. The new windows and doors have not only given the buildings a new lease of life, they have also made them easier to maintain. We are delighted to have helped contribute to Chestnut Court residents’ quality of life and to have enhanced our relationship with Pierhead thanks to the project’s successful delivery.”
