Housing association Riverside and their repairs contractor Axis Europe Plc teamed up yet again to clear rubbish from the Harvills Hawthorn and Millfields Estates in West Bromwich.

Staff from both companies were on hand to help residents from Millfields and Harvills Hawthorn estates inWest Bromwichclear away any rubbish and unwanted large items from their home and gardens.

Riverside has been running the skip days three times a year since 2008 and they have been a great success with 80 skips in total being filled and taken away.  This time round the team cleared away six skips over two days, there was a pick up and collection service offered to residents who had no transport for large items which was provided by Axis.

Lynda Cooke, Riverside Community Investment Officer who organises the event for tenants and residents on the estate, said: “We’ve been running the skip days since 2008 and we have seen a reduction in fly tipping and tenants have used this service well.

“We hope to continue running the skip days around two or three times a year and we would like people to come forward to volunteer to help with the skip days.”

Tim Hayes, Axis Divisional Director said: “A service that helps the residents and wider community can only be a good thing and we’re happy to be part of it. Clearly people here take pride in their homes and estate and that is something to be encouraged, organising these Skip days facilitates this by assisting with a clean-up.”

Councillor Simon Hackett, Sandwell Council's cabinet member for housing, said: “This excellent scheme helps to respond to issues that tenants and residents have raised with me. It is helping to keep the area tidy and address fly tipping.

“It’s great to seeRiverside, Axis and the local community working together to make a difference.”
