Plans for 765-home regeneration in Hackney
Hackney Council has approved plans for a 765-home regeneration scheme in Stoke Newington, including 79 new homes for social rent.
The scheme comprises a mix of 490 new-build homes and the refurbishment of 275 social homes in seven existing blocks which is already under way.
Of the 490 new-builds, 79 will be for social rent, 117 for shared ownership and 24 for private sale. Alongside the four and eleven-storey blocks will be built new shops, a community centre and a cafe.
The regeneration of the Kings Crescent Estate will be welcome news for Hackney. Research highlighted today showed that only 143 of 1,585 private rented properties available in the borough in June 2012 were available under housing benefit levels.
Cllr Karen Alcock, Deputy Mayor of Hackney, said: “Hackney Council has pledged to provide high quality homes and community facilities for residents, and the approval of the masterplan for Kings Crescent’s regeneration is a major step forward towards achieving this commitment.”
