Janet Hale, former President of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and founding Chair of Knowsley Housing Trust (now First Ark Group) has been announced as the new Chair of Progress Housing Group. Janet will succeed Philip Jones who has been with the organisation for 12 years.
Janet is a leading figure in the housing world, with extensive non-executive experience at Chair and Board level over twenty years; she is currently Chair of Women in Social Housing (WISH) NW and Secretary of the CIH NW Regional Committee. Over thirty years Janet has worked across local authority, housing association, higher education and consultancy sectors and is Director of Pilkington-Hale Partnership.
In her new role at Progress Housing Group, Janet hopes to help drive the organisation forward to meet and exceed its ambitious objectives. “We are all aware that this is a challenging time to be involved in social housing but it also offers the opportunity to deliver much more than just high quality housing and services to our tenants and customers. Under Philip’s chairmanship the Group has come to an exciting point in its journey and I’m looking forward to working closely with Jacqui and the Board to achieve - and surpass - our ambitions for the Group.
With the appointment of a new Chair, Progress is looking to reaffirm its strong belief that quality housing for all is key to achieving a prosperous economy and healthy society.
Progress Housing Group owns and manages 6,268 homes for social rent and a further 3,915 homes for people with learning disabilities and mental health needs, making it one of the UK’s largest supported housing providers. The Group also manages a women’s refuge, two purpose-built schemes for people facing homelessness, 573 units of key worker accommodation, retirement living and a highly successful Property Services division.
Progress Housing Group works in over ninety local authority areas and actively promotes its social purpose through the development of locally based initiatives, such as the provision of community centres, employing welfare benefits and energy efficiency advisors and the establishment of its £1.5million fund for community projects.
Jacqui De-Rose, Chief Executive at Progress Housing Group said:
“We are delighted to have Janet on board. Janet brings with her a wealth of experience from the housing sector which I’m sure will help Progress Housing Group continue to go from strength to strength.
“I would also like to thank Philip for all for all his hard work and commitment over the last twelve years. He has been instrumental in driving forward the growth of the Group and has been a superb ambassador for Progress Housing Group”.
Philip added: “My time with Progress Housing Group has been a happy and rewarding one and I take great pleasure and pride in knowing that the Group is now extremely well placed to face the demands and challenges of the future and of realising its vision of being the housing provider of choice. I wish to thank all those who I have worked with throughout my time with the Group and for their support throughout my 12 years in post.”
