Pedal Power Helps St Clare’s.

Staff from South Tyneside Homes have presented St Clare’s Hospice with a cheque following an “alternative” Coast to Coast cycle trek this summer.

John Musson, Dave Cutting, Chris Noble, Jack Rutherford, Emma Leggott, Dave Proctor, Joe Smith, Daran Waites, Steve Wheeler and former staff member Mick Doyle cycled the arduous 180 mile trek from Morecambe to South Shields between 1st and 3rd June, with sterling support offered by Selina Hayward who drove the van and assisted with refreshments.

The intrepid group attracted lots of sponsorship money from colleagues, relatives and friends and were proud to present the company’s adopted charity, St Clare’s Hospice in Jarrow with a cheque for £1159.15p on Thursday 6th September.

Senior Fund Raiser for St Clare’s, Vanessa Mustard-Wright, was thrilled to receive the donation and said, “We are always really grateful for the support that South Tyneside Homes gives us and this is another great contribution from the company towards our annual fund-raising target.”

South Tyneside Homes, the company that manages and maintains the Council’s homes, achieved the Gold Status for the Better Health at Work Award in January, which recognises those organisations that take pro-active steps to improve the fitness and wellbeing of their staff.

John Musson, Director of Housing for the company, who participated in the trek, said, “The cycling team always has a great camaraderie on the Coast to Coast journeys and it’s a superb way to keep fit. St Clare’s is a cause very dear to many people’s hearts and the fact that we were also raising money for our adopted charity is an added bonus. Long may it continue.”

The company has already raised £14,252 in total for St Clare’s Hospice and is now into its third year of partnership with them.
