Trust wins action against illegal occupant

Welwyn Hatfield Community Housing Trust has been awarded possession of a two bedroom maisonette by the court after a man had been living there illegally.
The Trust worked in partnership with Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council to take action to evict Abdeslam Agdour, 48. Mr Agdour had no right to live in the property in Haltside, Hatfield, and had failed to make regular payments to the council for doing so.
Mr Agdour was ordered by County Court Judgement to pay back all money he owes to the council as well as over £11,000 in costs.
Paul Wren, Chair of the Trust’s Management Board said: “With over 4,000 people waiting for housing it is important that council properties are available to the people in our borough who really need them.
Although it is always a last resort, this case demonstrates that the Trust and the council will pursue firm action against those that consistently breach the terms of their tenancy”.
